Restaurant menu calorie count

It has been proposed that restaurant menus should display the calorie count of each item. I have no problem with this in principle but I wonder if anyone has done a cost-benefit analysis. Most restaurants will have little idea of their calorie counts. I guess that a new business opportunity will arise: advising local fast food joints on the calorific values of their menu items.

The benefits are easy to state but less easy to quantify. How much will the health service save as a result of this measure?
